Synthetic Hauntings….
There are many types of hauntings, some real, and some just the product of our own fears, but there is another type of haunting, that falls in between the two. This is the synthetic haunting. I do not want anyone to confuse this synthetic haunting with a residual haunting, because as far as I am concerned, a residual occurrence is not even a haunting at all. A residual haunting is just a replay of past events. When events trigger a lot of emotion, they do leave their imprint on the fabric of the ether and can playback sometimes like an old movie. These residual hauntings are not active energy; they are just residuals left over from the past and have no real affect on the living at all.
A synthetic haunting is not the same as a residual haunting. It is not a replay of the past, nor a harmless vision of events gone by. A synthetic haunting is active energy that has been stored up in a location and is able to affect those that dwell there. This energy may have been left by the living parties that once lived there. It doesn’t matter if those parties still own the place, don’t live there anymore, or have not been there in a decade or more. If they even think regularly about events that happened there, that left their mark on their psyches, then they continue to feed a synthetic haunting. The negative energy mass of a synthetic haunting floats around and stays in that location. It is not a ghost because it is not a spirit of the departed or any other spirit; it is not residual event because it is active and alive, and is fed from the present as well as the past. It is a real and it was fed for years by people and events that took place in the home, which prompted counter energy from the people that experienced them, which stays in the location and becomes part of the house’s own energy store. Energy continues to exist and react to other energy, yet it may have no conscious design or intelligent awareness. Let’s take a look at how a synthetic haunting begins and builds up to what can be as horrible as an actual intelligent haunting.
Here is one formula for a synthetic haunt to occur: Let’s say that a family builds a home, there are a couple and their four kids that move in. They live there for years and over the course of that time, Dad becomes an abusive boozer, Mom becomes depressed, the kids are all subject to abuse of all kinds, and much fighting and angry violent energy is dispersed into the home by its occupants. Let’s say that this goes on for years. The angry negative energy is attracted to like energy so, like a whirling vortex, it just takes in everyone’s anger and makes a bigger and bigger ball of angry energy. Next the scared kids and mother throw out their fear energy and that too becomes a collective ball that also amasses there. Next the sad energy coming from all of the family members does the same. Now you have three active energy fronts in the home, an angry one, a fearful one and a sad one. Let’s say that the family moves out. Dad passes away, Mom gets it together but the kids still have the flashbacks of their worst moments in that house and they again recall the feelings that went along with those moments. That energy flies back to the original storehouse like metal to a magnet and the ball of energy that is stored in that house is refortified, again and again by this thought energy and emotional energy.
These collective energy stores are still very active and anyone coming into their range will be affected. The effect may manifest as a terrible fear and a feeling of vulnerability, as if there is something to always be on guard against. Feelings of anger or feeling threatened by sensing anger, without knowing the source, may also be common. It might be a feeling of depression and hopelessness that seems to have no source or reason, all depending on which energy store the person is experiencing. Along with fear sometimes, comes an imaginary terror, which may start bad dreams or seeing things. Unresolved feelings of anger tend to make people argue and have confrontations with each other. Depression, anger and fear all affect people as to make them act differently than normal and perhaps even isolate themselves. Much of this exact type of thing is often associated with true spirit hauntings. That considered it is not surprising that the people in this situation may begin to think they have spirits haunting their home. As I have said many times before, spirits are indeed everywhere but they do not always seek to interact or haunt the living. Now let’s say the people living in the synthetic haunt call in a paranormal investigator and that team gets some EVPS in the home. Now everyone is convinced of a haunting by spirits. Next maybe a cleansing is attempted and it fails miserably. It fails because there is no evil spirit to banish from the home but the concentrated human energy that produced these balls of negative energy and that may indeed be continuing to feed it through their memories and contemplations of all that transpired in that location. Now this goes beyond a residual affect but into a current revitalizing effect, that keeps these energy masses going and building.
This kind of synthetic haunting is next to impossible to resolve as there is no real spirit or conscious, thinking entity behind them. It is more of a grid of chaos that hangs over and remains within the location. The reactions of the current residents also feed the grid with their own negative energy, born of their reaction to what was already in the location. It is an endless cycle. It may finally dissipate if the location is left unoccupied and unvisited by both living people and the thought energy of those that once lived there. But that can take ages, so it is a very hopeless state of affairs for a long time.
I have seen a few of these synthetic haunting over the years. It is hard to get people involved to accept them for what they are, as most are convinced it is a real spirit haunting. The best thing to do in the case of a synthetic haunting is to simply move away from the location. There is such a thing as a “bad” house or building but it is not always because it is haunted by ghosts as we think of ghosts as conscious spirits. Some places are just haunted by the collective energies of the living that once dwelt there or that continue to interact with the location on many levels.
How do you recognize a synthetic haunting? Well, first you have to interview every member of the family or group that dwells in the home. Take note of what they are feeling, when and what they think it might be related to. Find out as much as you can about past history of the home and if the former residents are still among the living. Find out just how far away those former residents might live. Be cautious of reviewing EVP responses to make sure that they may be related to the case and might serve as proof of a real haunting first.

very interesting.Do think that this build up of energy could cause activity that may resemble poltergeist activity?

Mary in this case I tend to think that your house is genuinely haunted. It could also be a combination of a real haunting and a synthetic one caused by residual energy of past occupants. I am sorry that you have had so much trouble there.
